I’m a creature of habit and I tend to repurchase favourite fragrances over and over, so for a new fragrance to break the pattern, it has to be pretty darn lovely! YSL’s Black Opium* has done just that, and it is such a pretty scent.
First up, the packaging is so gorgeous, a really sexy and glitzed up version of the original opium bottle. The bottle itself is black and glittery, but super smooth so no glitter will fall over, isn’t it just so annoying when that happens with products? I want to smell nice, I don’t want black glitter on my face, thanks. I love a bit of glitter, and the black glitter is a subtle glitter, but still lovely and not tacky in any way.
Now, the scent itself. It really reminds me of the Lancome La Vie Est Belle fragrance (one of my faves), but with a little more depth to it, a perfect evening fragrance. Black Opium is inspired by the dark and mysterious side of the brand and the fragrance opens with notes of coffee, complimented by accords of pink pepper, which lead you to the heart of vanilla, jasmine and orange blossom, drawing to a close with base notes of cedar and patchouli. The scent is gorgeously sweet and quite sexy too and lasts all day. It is also gorgeous as both a day and night fragrance which is a hit with me! Overall I really adore this fragrance, and I just love the bottle too!
Black Opium is available from Fragrance Direct on offer at the moment for just £37.99 (RRP £44) for 30ml.
